About

The Full Story

Create Space London was founded by previous students of London institutions, who understood the challenges faced by people upon graduation, particularly the lack of support once formal education ends. We believe that these support mechanisms are essential to the creative process, from access to fabrication facilities and knowledge that allow three‑dimensional exploration of ideas, to social environments that help these ideas develop and flourish.

We’re a charity supporting London’s creative community by offering affordable, welcoming spaces where artists and makers can create, connect, and grow. Based in Kensington, we provide access to studios, facilities, and a supportive network.

We transform unusual or disused spaces into affordable studios and facilities, breathing new life into buildings while acting as a springboard for creative businesses and practitioners. By combining physical resources with community connections, our projects foster creativity, collaboration, and skill‑sharing, helping individuals and groups bring their ideas to life while strengthening the cultural fabric of London.

Privacy Policy

How Create Space London collects, uses and looks after your personal information.

Who we are

Create Space London is a charity registered in England and Wales (no. 1166043) and a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (no. 08846726). Registered office: The Cedars, School Lane, Great Barton, Bury St Edmunds IP31 2RQ. Studios: 10 South End, London W8 5BU. Create Space London is the data controller for the personal information described here. For any question or request about your data, write to info@createspacelondon.org or to the studios address above.

What we collect and why

Messages, applications and viewings. When you contact us, apply for a studio or book a viewing, we keep what you write in the form (your name, email, phone if you give it, your links and any file you attach) so the team can reply and assess your request. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you and, for applications, taking steps at your request before a membership agreement.

Members. If you become a member, we keep your contact details, the answers you give, requests you send, documents you sign (with your signature) and your bookings, so we can run your membership, keep the building safe and keep a record of what was agreed. Legal basis: our agreement with you and our legal obligations (for example health and safety and inductions).

Bookings, courses and payments. When you book a course, a workshop, equipment or space, we keep the booking details. Payments are made on the secure page of our payment provider (for example Stripe or Zeffy): we do not see or store your card details. Legal basis: our agreement with you.

Newsletter. If you sign up, we keep your email address (and name if you give it) to send you news from the studios. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. Legal basis: your consent.

Donations. Donations are made through our payment or donation provider, which shares with us the details needed to thank you and keep our accounts (and, if you choose Gift Aid, your Gift Aid declaration). Legal basis: our legal obligations and our legitimate interest in thanking supporters.

Staff and volunteers. Staff accounts keep the name, email and the tasks given to each person.

Artists on the website. Names, photos, biographies and links of the creatives shown on the website are published with their agreement and can be changed or removed at any time on request.

Who helps us process it

We use a small number of trusted services that process data on our behalf and only on our instructions: Cloudflare (website hosting, database and files), Resend (sending the website's automatic emails), EmailOctopus (newsletter), Google Workspace (our email) and our payment or donation provider. Some of these services are based in, or use servers in, the United States; where data leaves the UK this is done with the safeguards required by UK data protection law. We never sell your data and we do not share it with anyone for marketing.

If you press play on a showreel, the video is loaded from YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode) or Vimeo, which then apply their own privacy policies.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us an address to send them to. It is used only for Create Space London messages and is deleted when you turn notifications off or log out.

How long we keep it

Messages and applications (with any file attached) are deleted automatically after 12 months, or sooner when no longer needed. Member records are kept while you are a member; members who leave are archived and can ask for their data to be deleted, except what we must keep by law (for example financial records, normally six years). Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to info@createspacelondon.org; we will reply within one month. If you are not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.

Keeping your data safe

The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), only the staff who need personal information can access it, and logins are protected. No system is completely secure: if you think your information has been put at risk, tell us straight away at info@createspacelondon.org. If Create Space London ever merges with or passes its activities to another organisation, your information may pass to that organisation with the same protections.

Changes

We may update this policy; the latest version is always on this page. If the changes are significant, we will tell you by email or on the website.

Cookies Policy

The cookies and similar technologies this website uses.

The short version

This website uses only what it needs to work. There are no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no analytics, so we do not need to ask for your consent and there is no cookie banner.

What we use

Login cookie (__Host-csl_s). Set only when a member or a member of staff logs in, to keep you logged in. It is strictly necessary, cannot be read by other websites, and expires after 30 days for members and 12 hours for staff, or when you log out.

Notification setting (stored in your browser). If you turn on notifications, your browser remembers it on your device. It is removed when you turn notifications off or log out.

Offline copy (stored in your browser). The website keeps a copy of its pages and photos on your device so it loads quickly and still opens with a poor connection. It contains no personal information.

Other websites

Some links take you to other services with their own cookies and policies: showreel videos on YouTube or Vimeo (loaded only when you press play), the newsletter sign-up page (EmailOctopus), payment and donation pages, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and studio adverts on Gumtree.

Managing cookies

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block the login cookie you will not be able to log in to the member or staff area. Questions: info@createspacelondon.org.

Terms and Conditions

The terms for using this website and booking with Create Space London.

About us

This website is run by Create Space London. Contact: info@createspacelondon.org.

Using this website

By using this website you agree to these terms. You may browse, share links and download information for your own use. Please do not misuse the website, try to access areas you are not authorised to use, or upload anything unlawful, harmful or that you do not have the right to share. You must be 18 or over to make a booking or a payment through this website.

Content and copyright

The text, design and photographs on this website belong to Create Space London or are used with permission. Artworks and images of the creatives remain the property of the artists and may not be reused without their permission.

Member and staff accounts

Member and staff accounts are personal. Keep your login details safe, do not share them, and tell us straight away at info@createspacelondon.org if you think someone else has used your account. Membership of the studios is governed by the membership agreement each member signs; if anything on this website differs from that agreement, the agreement applies.

Studio rental

Studios are let through a written agreement with our team, and that agreement applies if anything here differs from it. In short:

  • The minimum term is three months.
  • Rent is paid in advance on the 1st of every month.
  • A deposit equal to one month's rent is paid at the start and returned at the end, less the cost of any damage.
  • A £20 fee applies to late payments, and repeated missed payments can end the agreement.
  • Extra charges may apply for additional heating or high energy use in the winter months.
  • To leave, give at least one month's notice in writing.

Studios are for creative and professional work. Please keep your space clean and leave it as you found it; damage to the studio or to shared equipment is charged to the renter. Keep noise at a level that respects your neighbours. Subletting, staying overnight and cooking in the studios are not allowed, and pets are not allowed except assistance animals. Guests must be with you at all times and signed in the visitors' book. Everyone must follow the fire safety rules: keep fire exits clear, use only safe, approved electrical equipment and no open flames or hazardous materials.

If the rules are seriously broken we may end access to the studio straight away, and the space must then be cleared within 24 hours.

Courses and workshops

Prices and details are shown on each course. A booking is confirmed when you have paid and received confirmation.

  • Booked through ClassBento: ClassBento's own booking terms and money-back guarantee apply.
  • Booked directly with us: cancel at least 7 days before the start for a full refund. With less than 7 days' notice we cannot refund, because tutors and materials are booked in advance, but we can move you to another date if you tell us at least 3 days before.
  • If we cancel or move a course (for example if too few people book or the tutor is unwell), you can choose another date or a full refund.
  • Tickets for events are not refundable unless the event is cancelled. We may need to reschedule an event for reasons outside our control.

Machines, spaces and other bookings

Members can book workshop areas, machines and spaces through the website. Payments are taken by our payment provider on its own secure page. If you need to cancel or change a booking, contact us as soon as possible at info@createspacelondon.org. Access to machines and workshops requires a completed induction and following the health and safety rules of the building. None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Donations

Donations support the charity's work and are generally not refundable, unless made by mistake; if that happens, contact us within 14 days.

Links to other websites

We link to other websites (for example payment pages, social media and studio adverts). We are not responsible for their content or their policies.

Accuracy and liability

We work to keep the information on this website correct and up to date, but details such as availability, prices and dates can change. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss caused by relying on the information on this website, for interruptions to the website, or for loss of or damage to personal belongings left in the studios or workshops, unless caused by our negligence. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

Privacy and cookies

How we use personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

Changes and law

We may update these terms; the latest version is always on this page, and we will tell members about important changes by email. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
